Troy Duffy burst onto the Hollywood scene in 1997 when his first script, “The Boondock Saints,” earned him a $15 million film deal with Miramax and a cover story in USA Today. As both writer and director, he created an instant cult classic that has defied the passage of time, spawning a devoted global fanbase that continues to grow, 25 years later.
Born in New Britain, Connecticut, Duffy’s writing talent emerged early. He won statewide writing contests in elementary school and received the prestigious Shel Silverstein award. Influenced by a Harvard-educated father who introduced him to classic literature, including Beowulf, Moby-Dick and Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Duffy developed a deep appreciation for stories that explore themes of good versus evil, justice and brotherhood.
The success of “The Boondock Saints” led to “The Boondock Saints II” a decade later, establishing a franchise that has generated comic books, graphic novels, merchandise and over 1.3 million fan tattoos. The iconic Irish brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, portrayed by Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus, have become a cultural phenomenon as God-inspired vigilantes dispensing their own brand of justice.
After 25 years of writing A-level screenplays, Duffy has now penned his first novel, The Boondock Saints, Vol. 1: Blood Origin, offering fans and thriller fiction readers a deeper, more personal journey with the beloved Brothers MacManus as they navigate Boston’s criminal underworld.
